  • 💰 NZ Import GST – Payable on This Shipment

  • You’ve indicated that you do not meet the criteria for the NZ Import GST exemption.
As a result, Import GST will be payable when your motorcycle arrives in New Zealand.

    Here’s what this means:

    • You are not claiming the GST exemption
    • You will be required to pay 15% GST on the landed value of your motorcycle
(Landed value = Purchase Price + Shipping + Insurance)
    • If you’ve owned the motorcycle for more than 3 months, depreciation may be applied to reduce the value before GST is calculated
    • There is also a Disbursement Fee of 4% on the GST payment if you do not hold a NZ Customs Account
    • GST must be paid before the motorcycle can be cleared through customs and released to you
  • Please Confirm*
  • It looks like you may in fact qualify for the NZ Import GST exemption.

To be eligible, you must meet all of the following:

✅ You’ve lived outside of New Zealand for at least 21 months
✅ You’ve owned and used the motorcycle for 12+ months in your personal name
✅ The motorcycle is being imported for your own use (not resale or commercial purposes)
✅ There is no finance owing on the motorcycle
✅ You’re the first importer of the motorcycle into NZ
✅ You will be in NZ around the same time the motorcycle arrives

👉 If you believe you meet all of the above criteria, please exit this form and complete our GST Exempt Motorcycle Booking Form instead:

This form is specifically designed for clients claiming the exemption and will guide you through the correct process.

  • 🚗 New Zealand Vehicle Compliance Process & Requirements

  • Before your motorcycle can be registered for use on New Zealand roads, it must undergo an official Compliance Inspection at an NZTA-approved facility.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your motorcycle is does not have ABS or meet the NZ Emission standards, then you will most likely NOT be able to Comply it for NZ Roads. Please contact our team if this applies to you.

In most cases, Willship will deliver the motorcycle directly to the compliance facility after it passes its quarantine inspection at the port.

✅ This inspection includes checks for:

    • Rust, structural integrity, and previous repairs
    • Exhaust system noise and emissions
    • Brake condition and performance
    • Steering, suspension, tyres, and wheels
    • Lights, indicators, and speedometer accuracy
    • ADR plate verification (must be present and legible)
    • Aftermarket modifications that may require LVV certification

⚠️ If rust, repairs, or structural damage are found, the motorcycle may also need a separate repair certification before it can be registered.

    Please confirm the following:

  • I have located my motorcycles ADR plate
  • It's important that you locate your ADR plate - Information on how to locate this can be found here

Without this, the motorcycle may not be able to be complied.

  • I understand that there may be costs from the compliance facility if any aftermarket parts have been fitted or any modifications have been made to my motorcycle*
  • I understand that there may be costs from the compliance facility if my motorcycle has any rust or has previously had any repairs or damage to the structure*
  • I understand that a motorcycle being roadworthy in Australia does not mean that it will not require any additional work to be complied in NZ*
  • NZ Immigrants Exemption (only for non-compliant motorcycles)

  • If your motorcycle does not meet New Zealand’s standard entry certification requirements — for example, if it lacks ABS or does not meet emissions regulations — you will need an Immigrant’s Exemption in order to Comply for NZ roads.

This exemption is granted by NZTA and allows personal-use vehicles that don’t meet current standards to be registered as long as the importer meets certain criteria. The Criteria is the same as the Tax Exemption.

As you have indicated you DO NOT meet the Tax Exemption criteria, you will most likely NOT be able to comply your Motorcycle for NZ Roads.

We strongly reccomend reaching out to an NZTA / compliance facility to discuss the specifics of your bike prior to shipping to ensure you know the process and costs on arrival.

  • Have you spoken with a compliance facility / NZTA and do you understand the compliance requirements and costs for your specific motorcycle?*
  • It's very important that you do this so you don't run into any problems and unexpected costs on arrival. Simply google 'motorcycle compliance' at your desired destination (eg: Auckland) and you'll be able to find many compliance facilities who can asisst with this process and provide advise)

  • 🛡️ Transit Insurance – Optional but Recommended

  • Would you like to take out a transit insurance policy?

If you'd like us to arrange this for you, we’ll simply need to know your motorcycle’s value. You can provide:

    • The amount you paid for the vehicle, or
    • A current market estimate based on a similar vehicle for sale online

The policy cost is 1.75% of the insured value + shipping costs, with a minimum premium of AUD $455.

There is a AUD $500 excess, which would be deducted from any claim payout if required (no upfront payment is needed).

Although international shipping is generally low-risk and we partner with highly reputable teams throughout the process, there are still elements beyond our direct control — such as port operators, quarantine cleaning staff, and depot handlers.

Because these third parties are not employed by Willship, we’re unable to accept liability for any loss or damage that may occur during transit.

For peace of mind, we strongly recommend taking out transit insurance to ensure you’re covered in the unlikely event something goes wrong.

  • Would you like to take out a transit insurance policy?*
  • 🚢 Roll-On Roll-Off (RORO) Shipping – Important Information

  • RORO shipping is specifically designed for the transport of empty motorcycles, and the keys must travel with the motorcycle at all times.

We strongly recommend that you do not leave any personal items inside the motorcycle (if you have storage bins or saddle bags), as there have been instances in the past where items have gone missing due to theft or unauthorised access during transit.

If you choose to leave items inside, please be aware:

    • They are shipped entirely at your own risk
    • The shipping line or port staff may reject the vehicle if internal cargo is found
    • Additional charges may be applied by NZ Customs or MPI if goods are discovered during inspection

Please note that Willship cannot accept liability for any loss, damage, or theft of items left inside the motorcycle when shipping via Roll on, Roll off.

    ✅ Please confirm:

  • I have / will remove all personal items from the motorcycle*
  • If you choose to leave anything in the motorcycle it will be shipped strictly at your own risk - if something goes missing then there is no ability to make a claim against Willship, the shipping line or any third party - we strongly recommend removing all personal items.

If you want to ship personal items, we recommend utlizing our crate service. Please contact us for more information.

  • I understand that the keys for the motorcycle and all compartments must travel with the motorcycle*
  • The port staff, along with customs and MPI (biosecurity) need access to all areas of the vehicle. Firstly to be able to access it and drive it on and off the vessel and around the port, and secondly so they can inspect all areas during the inspection to ensure you are not bringing in any prohibited items.

  • Do you understand that parts of the shipping process are outside of Willship’s control?

  • When moving your vehicle internationally, Willship International must rely on a range of third-party organisations and government bodies to complete the process. These include:

    • Australian port workers who receive, load, and secure vehicles for Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) shipping
    • Shipping lines and vessel crews responsible for transporting the vehicles and containers
    • Destination port workers who unload cargo and prepare it for inspection
    • Customs and biosecurity officers who may inspect your vehicle
    • Quarantine cleaning facilities (if additional cleaning is required)

As much as we wish we could, we simply cannot control the actions or timelines of these third parties. They do not work for Willship, and their processes operate independently from ours.

While issues are uncommon, occasional delays, inspections, or handling issues can occur — and this is true no matter which freight forwarder is used. We always do everything in our power to manage the process smoothly, but some elements are unavoidably outside our control.

In rare cases, additional port storage charges or customs inspection fees may arise. These fees are determined by third parties and are typically the result of unforeseen delays during the clearance process. While we always aim to avoid such costs, we believe it’s important to be transparent about when and why they can occur.

Situations That May Incur Storage or Inspection-Related Fees:

    ⏱️ Port Free Time Expiry
Most international ports and unpacking facilities provide three working days of free storage. If your vehicle fails an initial inspection or is ordered for a Customs exam, and clearance cannot be completed within this window, storage charges may apply.

    🔍 Customs Exams & Inspections
Customs may select shipments for inspection either at random or due to specific indicators. These inspections are entirely outside of Willship’s control and can include:

    • Physical inspections (basic or detailed)
    • X-ray scanning
    • Sniffer dog screening
    • Temporary seizure or further investigation

Customs rarely provide detailed reasoning for these actions, and Willship is not involved in their decision-making process.

    🧼 Quarantine Cleaning Backlog
If Quarantine orders your vehicle for cleaning or treatment and their contracted service providers are experiencing delays, it may not be possible to complete cleaning in time to avoid port storage charges.

    💬 Important Note:
While these charges are not issued by Willship, we typically handle the payment on your behalf and then include them in your invoice for settlement. In many cases, we don’t agree with these charges or consider them fair — especially when caused by government agency backlogs. However, this is part of the system when importing into Australia using their port infrastructure. These charges are imposed directly by the port, unpack depot, or government agency and are payable before your cargo can be released.

  • Do you acknowledge and understand that, on rare occasions, additional charges as above may apply and are payable before release of your cargo?*
  • ℹ️ Unfortunately, if you’re not willing to accept the risk of potential storage or customs inspections charges imposed by the port or NZ customs (in the rare event of Customs exams, MPI delays, or failed inspections), we are unable to proceed with your booking.

These charges are not controlled or issued by Willship, and while we do everything possible to avoid them, they are a standard part of importing goods into New Zealand. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, feel free to contact our team.
