    What you see below are all the bits and pieces of the form that are needed to get  it collect info for single papers or panel papers. This requires hiding and showing different bits, and requiring or 'unrequiring' others. If you click on Settings above, and then Conditions, you'll see Conditions that Show fields or Require fields  depending on various choices of the submitter.

    Also, each year, when you clone a copy of  the form for the upcoming year, you'll want to click on the Single Submission ID widget, and click on its properties (the gear icon) and set its index back to 0

    Use this form to submit a paper for consideration by SPEP, whether you are submitting a single paper or a paper that is part of a two- or three- person Panel.

    Submitting papers this way makes it easier for SPEP to collect information about eligibility for prizes and, in future, collect demographic data (vs. having a panel organizer upload papers for other panelists). Note: the form also allows a corresponding author to submit a multi-authored paper.

  • Panelists:

    • We use the email of the panel organizer to link panel papers together.
    • In the email field below, please enter the email of the panel organizer.
    • Make sure you are using the address they use for orgainizing the panel, e.g., their university email.
  • Panel Organizer:

    • You must also complete (or have completed) our Panel Information form, which collects information about the panel and names & emails of all panelists.
    • We use your email, as the panel organizer, to link panel papers together.
    • In the email field below, please enter your email (the one you will/have use(d) on the Panel Information form)--and make sure your panelists use this email when they submit their papers using this form.
  • Author Information

  • Co-authors must enter the demographic data below. For other required fields, you can just enter an x, etc. -- but please do let us know if you are ready to moderate.

    Enter the email of the corresponding author who submitted the paper on your behalf--this lets us link your demographic data to the sumitted paper.

  • Authorization to submit paper on behalf of co-authors:

    By submitting this form and filling in the box below, you are indicating that:

    • You have been permitted to submit this co-authored paper on behalf of all co-authors.
    • You are authorized to fill in prize eligiblity information on behalf of all co-authors.
    • All the co-authors are submitting just this one paper for consideration.

    NOTE: this paper is eligible for prize consideration only if all co-authors meet the eligibility condition. E.g., the paper is eligible for the Graduate Student Prize only if all co-authors are graduate students.

  • Prizes

    SPEP has several prizes. Please select those for which you are eligible. Leave blank if you are not applying for prizes.
  • Best submission by a Graduate Student. All currently enrolled graduate students are eligible for the SPEP Graduate Student Award. An individual may win this award only once.

  • Best submission by a Junior Scholar. To be eligible for the SPEP Junior Scholar Award, you must have earned a PhD in the last five years (i.e., for the 2026 SPEP, January 2021). An individual may win this award only once.

  • The Iris Marion Young Prize for the best paper in feminist philosophy, awarded by the Committee on the Status of Women.

  • The Sylvia Wynter Prize for the best paper considering anti-blackness, Africana and Indigenous diasporas, colonialism, post-colonialism, settler-colonialism by a Black, Indigenous, and/or person of color junior scholar (that is, a pre-tenure scholar or graduate student) awarded by the Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

  • The S. Kay Toombs Prize for the best paper addressing disability, ableism, research in philosophy of disability, and/or research in critical disability studies by a junior scholar (that is, a scholar who has earned a PhD in the five years prior to the submission date) or graduate student awarded by the Committee on Accessibility, Disability, and Inclusion.

  • The Kyoo “Q” Lee Prize for best paper on LGBTQ issues in philosophy by a junior scholar, graduate student, or independent scholar/researcher that 1) engages LGBTQ philosophy, addressing issues of gender, sexuality, queer theory, and/or trans philosophy (especially papers engaging LGBTQ issues in conversation with questions of race, ethnicity, indigeneity, disability, culture, class, migration, religion, and/or age) and/or 2) is submitted by a self-identified LGBTQ philosopher. Priority will be given to scholars who work across genres (broadly construed) in innovative ways. The winner will be chosen by the LGBTQ Advocacy Committee through anonymous review.

  • Submission Details

    • All submissions must be prepared for anonymous review. Names and addresses of authors must be omitted from the abstracts, papers, and footnotes.
    • If your submission includes any identifying information, it will be rejected.
    • Papers may be no longer than 3,000 words, exclusive of notes, references, and title.

  • Submission Conditions

    • A person may submit only one paper for consideration each year.
    • If you have submitted a book for consideration for a special session, you may still submit a single paper, but not a paper for a panel.  If both your book and single papper are selected for presentation, you will have to choose betweent them and present just one of them.
    • Be advised that previously published work cannot be submitted (and will not be considered).
    • For multi-authored papers, the above applies to each of the co-authors.
