  •  Background

    If you are an Aotearoa artist who features on sound recordings that are registered with Recorded Music NZ, you can join the Aotearoa Recording Artist Scheme and register as an artist in order for us to distribute royalties directly to you. Before registering with us and signing an Artist Registration Agreement, you should have consent from the rights holder (e.g. record company) who owns/controls your recordings and to find out more about what’s involved you should read the following materials:

    Personal Information and Registration Process

    As part of our registration process we will require you to do some or all the following:

    • Provide us with contact details and other information about you and the sound recording rights connected to you
    • Provide us with bank, tax details and two forms of proof of identity
    • Enter into a binding legal agreement with us

    The personal information you provide will be shared with Recorded Music NZ and anyone you approve to access to your account (once activated) and will be used by us only for the specific purposes set out in our Privacy Policy, which you can view here. 

     

    If you are a Rights Holder i.e you own/control your own sound recordings, as well as being an Artist, you should complete this form.

    The licensing of rights to Recorded Music comprises a “supply” for the purposes of the Goods and Services Tax Act 1985 (Supply)

    Recorded Music NZ is more practically placed than rights holders to determine the value of the supply. Therefore for efficiency and practicality, Recorded Music NZ, as the recipient of your licensing of rights, will issue you with Buyer Created Taxable Supply Information (BCTSI) . You will not issue a tax invoice in respect of the Supply.

    The bank account details you have entered are valid and such account is entitled to receive funds from Recorded Music NZ.

    If you are GST-registered, the GST number and GST-registered name you have provided are correct, and you will notify Recorded Music NZ if your registration status changes.

  • These documents are only used for the purpose of verifying your identity and ensuring that we can make accurate royalty payments . All information will be held securely in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

  • What happens next?

    • This information will be reviewed by our Member Services team
    • You will then hear from us within 10 working days, either requesting more information (for example if you are under 18 or information we require is missing), or if your application is approved then you both you and the relevant Rights Holder will be sent an Artist Registration Agreement to sign via adobe sign
    • Once you have signed the Artist Registration Agreement your myRecordedMusic account will be set up and you will be sent your log in details and further information
