Teacher-led Place-Based Curriculum
Detroit Riverfront Conservancy staff developed a teacher-led curriculum, which can be used by classroom and community teachers to guide learning at Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park. The K-12 curriculum is grounded in Michigan Next-Generation Science Standards, the Ralph Wilson Park interpretive themes, and the principles of place-based education. It includes a 60-minute semi-scripted lesson plan, pre and post visit classroom activities and projects, vocabulary lists, a student activity guide for the park, materials list, a content-focused reading list, and a park map.
The teacher-led curriculum gives educators the opportunity to guide their students through a standards-based outdoor learning experience without having to book a guided field trip. The teacher-led curriculum is intended to be used at Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park. The curriculum is linked on our website and below.
