CPG 2.0 Author Application

The Association for Vascular Access (AVA) invites qualified healthcare professionals with knowledge and experience in vascular access to apply to serve as Domain Authors for the development of the AVA Clinical Practice Guidelines for Adults, 2nd Edition (CPG 2.0).

About CPG 2.0:

The guidelines provide evidence-informed recommendations to support safe, effective, and patient-centered vascular access practice. CPG 2.0 will evaluate current evidence and translate that evidence into practical recommendations applicable across the continuum of adult vascular access care.

Author Role:

CPG 2.0 will use a Domain-based authorship model consisting of eight Domain Authors. Each Author will be primarily responsible for coordinating and writing the recommendations within one assigned Domain.

Domain Authors will work collaboratively with the CPG Editors and will have access to a pool of approved CPG 2.0 Contributors who may be invited to provide focused knowledge, experience, or perspective; assist with defined evidence-review activities; consult on specific Domain components; assist in developing draft recommendation language or supporting content within their area of knowledge or experience; or review draft content and recommendations.

Contributors provide focused assistance but do not assume authorship or primary responsibility for the Domain. The Domain Author remains responsible for evaluating, integrating, and approving Contributor input and for the overall development and written content of the assigned Domain.

Authors may identify potential Contributors from the established Contributor pool or recommend additional individuals for consideration. Contributor participation will follow the CPG 2.0 Contributor process. CPG 2.0 Editors will recognize the scholarly contribution and accountability of each Domain Author. Each Author will receive named authorship for their assigned Domain.

CPG 2.0 is organized into eight Domains:

Author Expectations:

CPG 2.0 Domain Authors will lead the development of one assigned Domain, working collaboratively with the CPG Editors throughout development and finalization. CPG Editors will support authors, along with the established methodology and development process, and approved Contributors with knowledge, experience, or perspective relevant to specific components of the Domain.

Domain Authors are expected to:

• Participate throughout the CPG 2.0 development process. Maintain active participation from project onboarding through completion of the assigned Domain and final publication activities.
• Complete required training. Participate in training related to the CPG 2.0 methodology, evidence review and appraisal, recommendation development, use of project tools, and other processes necessary for assigned activities.
• Work within the established methodology. Follow the approved CPG 2.0 protocol and consistently apply the established processes for evidence review, appraisal, recommendation development, documentation, and consensus.
• Identify areas where additional perspective or knowledge is needed. Work with the Editors to identify and engage appropriate Contributors when specialized clinical, professional, research, industry, patient, caregiver, or other perspectives may strengthen the Domain.
• Collaborate with Contributors. Clearly define requested Contributor activities and thoughtfully evaluate and integrate Contributor input. Contributors may assist with evidence activities, consultation, drafting recommendation language, supporting content, or review; the Domain Author retains responsibility for the Domain's final draft content.
• Develop the assigned Domain. Become familiar with the components and evidence relevant to the Domain and assume primary responsibility for developing, writing, revising, and integrating its recommendations and supporting content.
• Collaborate across Domains. Work with the Editors and other Domain Authors when topics overlap or recommendations have implications across multiple Domains to promote consistency and reduce unnecessary duplication or conflicting guidance.
• Participate in meetings and project activities. Attend scheduled Author meetings and other required project activities and communicate proactively when attendance or completion of an agreed-upon activity is not possible.
• Meet agreed-upon timelines. Complete assigned work within established project timelines and communicate promptly when circumstances may require modification of a deadline or work plan.
• Respond to review and revision. Participate in reviewing recommendations and supporting content, and respond to methodological, editorial, peer-review, and other feedback throughout development and publication.
• Maintain confidentiality. Protect unpublished evidence reviews, draft recommendations, deliberations, Contributor input, and other confidential project materials.
• Disclose conflicts of interest. Complete required AVA conflict-of-interest disclosures and promptly report relevant changes throughout the project.
• Communicate effectively in written and spoken English. CPG 2.0 development, meetings, evidence review, recommendation development, and publication will be conducted in English.
• Accept accountability for authorship. Review the final content of the assigned Domain in collaboration with the Editors, approve the work attributed to the Author, and accept responsibility for its integrity and accuracy.

Please rank your selections in order of preference. Selecting more than one Domain is optional and does not affect consideration for your first choice. Applicants selected for authorship may be offered a Domain other than their first choice based on the applicant pool's qualifications and the needs of the CPG 2.0 project.
