TTCriders is looking for people who represent the diversity of Toronto's transit riders to join our Board of Directors and help grow our organization.
DEADLINE for 2023 applications: June 27, 2023
PLEASE SAVE THE DATE FOR BOARD INTERVIEWS during the evening of June 29, 2023
TTCriders is a membership-based non-profit organization that advocates for better public transit. We are very active with hundreds of dues-paying members, a strong volunteer network, and 15,000+ supporters. We need your ideas and contributions to grow our membership and become an even stronger voice for transit riders.
More information about our current campaigns and accomplishments is available at www.ttcriders.ca. We recommend reading more "About Us" and "Our Story" before applying to learn about our current priorities and strategic plan.
About the Board Position
TTCriders' Board of Directors is responsible for the governance of TTCriders. The board's responsibilities include:
- fundraising
- financial management
- membership recruitment
- upholding our vision for better transit and more affordable fares
- reviewing and approving budgets
- managing the executive director and human resources/recruitment
- organizational development
- strategic planning
- event planning (AGM and fundraising events)
- making sure we are keeping proper records and making sure we are following the rules set out for nonprofit organizations by the Government of Ontario and Canada
A board member doesn't have to have all of these skills (who does?) or do all of these things, but we expect board members to have at least one of these skills and participate in fundraising activities.
Board members govern the organization for two year terms and can be re-elected three times. All members of our board must be dues-paying members of TTCriders, at least 18 years of age, and not have a bankruptcy that hasn't been paid. Board members must contribute to fundraising activities, attend regular meetings (five or six per year), and are encouraged to sit on another committee in addition to the board (such as our Fundraising Committee or Campaigns Committee). In total, members are expected to contribute about five to ten hours every month to one or more of the activities that were discussed above.
Board members sign the following "Agreement Form" when they join the board. This form gives you more of an understanding of the responibilities of being a board member.
We are looking for candidates who reflect the diversity of TTC riders. We will strive to have at least one representative from the following regions: Downtown Toronto/East York, Etobicoke, North York, and Scarborough. We also want to make sure the board is representative of transit riders because we want to make sure that TTC advocacy is led by the people who need TTC improvements the most, including WheelTrans users, students, seniors, people who receive social assistance, and Black or Indigenous people and people of colour. If you are applying to be on the board, you can choose to share some information in your application about how you represent the diversity of TTC riders but this is completely optional.
Application Process
You can apply online by filling in the form below.
A nominating committee will conduct phone interviews with candidates.
All candidates selected by the nominating committee must be endorsed and approved by the current TTCriders’ Board.
