TENURE TRACK INSTRUCTOR POSITION
The Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus) is seeking to fill a full-time tenure-track Instructor I position to start summer – fall 2017. The successful candidate will be broadly committed to maintaining and improving the microbiology and immunology undergraduate program. He or she will be able to teach introductory and advanced lecture courses in immunology and virology (see http://www.microbiology.ubc.ca/undergraduate/course-descriptions and http://www.microbiology.ubc.ca/undergraduate/course-outlines for descriptions). They will also have primary responsibility for teaching an immunology/virology/cell biology laboratory course that provides training in modern experimental techniques, critical thinking, problem solving, experimental design, interpretation of data, and effective communication skills.
Responsibilities include delivering integrative lectures; leading in-class experiential learning activities; designing and guiding laboratory activities; mentoring students and providing feedback; grading of exams, assignments, and lab reports; and training and supervising teaching assistants. He or she will also maintain resources for their laboratory course, contribute to course development and renewal, and participate in advancing the overall goals of the department’s teaching and training program.
Candidates must have a PhD in immunology, virology, or a related molecular or cellular life science; the ability to develop and direct laboratory activities in the areas of molecular and cellular immunology and virology; and relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Post-doctoral research, as well as teaching experience in a lecture or laboratory course, would be assets.
