  • Herpetology Study at Cove Point: FrogWatch Nighttime Hike

  • Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust invites you to join our Nighttime FrogWatch Herpetology Study at Cove Point, a hike guided by Matt Neff (Curator, Calvert Marine Museum). This is an educational evening woodland hike focused on listening for mating calls and identifying frog species during peak breeding season, highlighting amphibian behavior, habitats and the importance of protecting vernal pools. 

    As of now, you can sign up only one person at a time using this form.

    If you are bringing guests to the hike, please send them this form to complete. Minors will need to complete the form with a parent or guardian.

    Location: Park along Poplar Dr (see map)

    Route: Approximately 200 yards round trip. Beginner level hike on flat, even surface. (Blue dotted line near "Nocturnal Listening Activity" on map)

    Please Wear/Bring: Long pants and long sleeves, sturdy footwear for hiking, water, insect repellent

    • Participation may include hiking, trail maintenance, nature education, light cleanup, or similar activities on conservation lands managed by the Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust (CPNHT). These areas may include uneven ground, fallen branches, insects, wildlife, and other natural hazards.

    • Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability

    • I understand that participation in activities on CPNHT properties involves inherent risks, including but not limited to tripping, slipping, falling, insect bites, allergic reactions, contact with plants or wildlife, and exposure to changing weather conditions. I acknowledge that the terrain may include hills, uneven surfaces, and forested areas with limited trail infrastructure.

      By signing below, I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation and release, waive, and discharge the Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust, its officers, directors, employees, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, or damages arising from injury, illness, or property loss occurring during my visit or volunteer activity, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

      I certify that I am physically capable of safely participating in the activities for which I am registering. I grant CPNHT permission to use photographs or videos of my participation for educational and promotional purposes.

      If signing for a minor, I certify that I am the parent or legal guardian and accept full responsibility for the participant"s safety and conduct.
