We currently need Short Term (up to 3 months) and Any Duration fosters. If you are seeking to foster for less than a month, we may not be able to prioritize processing your application at this time.

GBRR's geography includes Oregon, Washington, and Western Idaho. If you are not in these areas, we apologize but we can't process your application.  Fosters need to be in the Northwest so they have the proper support from our volunteers and network of veterinarians, trainers, and other resources.

The Foster Application/Agreement has 9 pages. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*). You must fill in all required fields before advancing to the next page. When two people are resident in the home, both partners/spouses must sign the form. After signing the form, click “Submit” on the last page. You will see a “Thank you” page and receive an email confirming receipt of your application. One of our volunteers will contact you shortly after we receive your application.

If you have resident dogs, you will be required to provide dates for vaccines (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella) and recent checkups. You can provide this information in the application or in communication with the foster team member processing your application.

Golden Bond Retriever Rescue cares deeply for the dogs they bring into their care. In many cases, these dogs have experienced very difficult lives up to this point, perhaps even enduring neglect and/or abuse. Once they are in our care, we want our dogs to be well-cared for and kept safe. Golden Bond Retriever Rescue does not make its dogs available for adoption until they have received all of their vaccinations, have been neutered or spayed, and have certain medical treatments completed. There will likely be times when the fosters will be required to take their foster dogs to a Golden Bond-approved veterinarian. Fostering is very rewarding but it will require a level of commitment from you.

YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH PETS

Please describe your level of experience with retriever dogs and provide an honest assessment of your abilities to recognize and deal with problem behaviors that a foster might exhibit (e.g. barking, growling, food/toy possessiveness, chewing, digging, jumping, pulling on leash, lack of house-training, etc.)

Your Veterinarian

Many of our rescue dogs come to us not fully vaccinated. While at your home, your foster dog may need to visit a GBR vet once or twice for booster shots. To ensure these dogs are not exposed to diseases before they are fully vaccinated, we would like to ensure your resident dog(s) (if any) are current on their vaccinations: distemper, hepatitis, parvo & parainfluenza (aka DHPP), bordetella (aka kennel cough) and rabies. (Leptospirosis vaccination is given to all foster dogs but is not a requirement for resident dogs. Canine influenza vaccination is strongly recommended.). Please provide the name and contact information of your veterinarian as well as the name of your dog(s).

As part of the foster application process, you will be required to provide vaccine dates for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella, and recent checkup information for resident dogs. We also require that you contact your vet and ask them to note that if a GBR volunteer calls, you give them permission to speak to us.

If you have no resident dog(s), please disregard this section.

Note: Your preferred vet is the one who has seen your dog(s) and provided them with their most current vaccinations. Golden Bond Retriever Rescue may call your veterinarian’s office to ensure that your dog(s) is/are current on the vaccinations mentioned above and receive routine care. We do not inquire about billing records or other personal information.

CARING FOR YOUR FOSTER DOG

MATCHING YOU WITH A FOSTER DOG

Your inputs define the types of dogs our foster team will approach you about fostering. We use a database and filter on dog characteristics to find potential fosters. Remember, the broader your profile (e.g., include Active energy, more ages, more "Yes" on behaviors and medical conditions), the more likely we are to consider you for a dog. You always get to review the information we have on a particular dog before agreeing to foster.

Please indicate your experience (YES/NO) and willingness to foster (YES/NO/MAYBE) a dog with the following behavior or medical issues. NOTE: Dogs with heartworm require treatment that takes months and requires them to remain calm (not get their heartrate up or breathing hard). The foster must handle the medical appointments and medications as well.

Please review and sign the agreement & assumption of risk and waiver forms. When two people are resident in the home, both partners/spouses must sign.

FOSTER HOME AGREEMENT & ASSUMPTION OF RISK

I/We, the undersigned, in consideration for receiving temporary custody and providing temporary foster care for any dog provided to me/us by Golden Bond Retriever Rescue, an Oregon nonprofit corporation, hereby promise and agree as follows:

1. To seek permission/guidance for all veterinary care (other than life-and-death emergency situations) with the Intake Manager before any medical treatment is administered by a veterinarian.

2. To alert the Golden Bond Retriever Rescue Adoption Director to all aspects of the dog’s personality, activity level, general health, etc. This information provides the Adoption Team the information necessary to match the dog with the right adoptive home.

3. Upon reasonable notice, to make the dog available to potential adopters and to answer all questions about the dog’s behavior and health, honestly, to the best of my/our knowledge.

4. In the event I/we should desire to adopt any dog placed in our temporary foster care and custody, we further promise and agree as follows:

a. To immediately contact the Intake Manager and Adoption Director and inform them of this request, ideally within the first three (3) weeks of the foster dog’s stay, but always before any other potential adopters are referred to, and actually see, the foster dog.

b. To complete an adoption contract and pay to Golden Bond Retriever Rescue an adoption fee equal to the current adoption fee usually paid by the general public. Such an executed contract and fee will be delivered/paid within three (3) business days of actual verbal adoption approval by Golden Bond Retriever Rescue.

c. To acknowledge that such an adoption is “AS IS,” with no warranties expressed or implied, regarding the physical or mental condition of the subject dog.

5. Finally, if I/we breach/break any terms of this agreement, or are directed by Golden Bond Retriever Rescue, to return the subject to it, even if we have not breached or broken this agreement, I/we agree to immediately release/return the subject dog to Golden Bond Retriever Rescue, upon demand.

Pursuant to the terms of this agreement, I/we further agree and understand that legal ownership/title to the subject dog remains with Golden Bond Retriever Rescue and not with me/us.

Should it be necessary, I/we hereby allow any authorized agent of Golden Bond Retriever Rescue to reclaim the subject dog from me/us without further notice. Entry upon my/our premises to reclaim the subject dog for cause is expressly authorized and shall not be considered legal trespass.

Should litigation be required to enforce the physical return of the subject dog, I/we also agree to pay any legal costs and reasonable attorney fees, including those of any appeal, pursuant to ORS 20.096.

I/We further acknowledge as follows:

1. That any dog we foster, whether domestic or foreign in origin, may have an unknown past so that the dog's behavior and temperament are likewise unknown to Golden Bond Retriever Rescue.

2. That Golden Bond Retriever Rescue's limited knowledge of the dog means there are certain inherent risks in fostering which Golden Bond Retriever Rescue cannot control and which I/We accept as volunteer foster home providers.

3. That the care and keeping of dogs generally involves risks. It is not possible to compile a complete listing of the risks, however, they include the possibility that you may suffer serious injury, illness, or damage or destruction of property. Dogs may carry diseases, engage in biting and scratching behavior, and cause damage to property.

4. That I/We voluntarily, knowingly, and freely assume, and take full responsibility for all risks, known and unknown, related to participation in the foster program, and I/we further acknowledge that I/we are entirely responsible for deciding whether to engage in a foster placement, and for deciding whether I/we can safely care for the said dog.

5. That I/We are solely responsible for the dog's conduct while under our control and direction, and that in consideration of the above, I/We therefore agree, to release and forever discharge Golden Bond and its directors, officers, members, staff, employees, volunteers, agents and representatives, and any others who participate in the Activities of, or who volunteer for, or perform work for, Golden Bond (together the “Released Parties”) from any and all demands or claims for damage or injury, from any cause of suit or action, known or unknown, that I/we may have against the Released Parties and for any and all harm or damage to health or property in any manner resulting from or arising out of fostering the dog named in this agreement. This release applies to all claims that are not caused by the gross negligence, wanton or willful misconduct, or reckless or intentional acts of the Released Parties.

LIABILITY WAIVER

I/we represent that I/we have experience caring for and interacting with dogs to the extent represented in the attached Foster Home or Volunteer Application. I/we further understand some dogs entering Golden Bond Retriever Rescue may have unknown or abusive backgrounds. Surrendering owners or even shelters may also lie to Golden Bond Retriever Rescue about their own dog’s traits or temperament. I/we therefore understand Golden Bond Retriever Rescue can make no representations to us about the traits or temperament of a Golden Bond Retriever Rescue dog with which we interact or foster. As such, I/we hereby hold Golden Bond Retriever Rescue, as well as its volunteers, directors and officers harmless for any personal injury or property damage any Golden Bond Retriever Rescue dog may cause with which we interact or foster. This includes us, and our family members and other family companion animals. I/we also agree to fully indemnify Golden Bond Retriever Rescue for any third-party liability for any Golden Bond Retriever Rescue dog while in my/our care, control and custody.
