IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LIBRARY EXHIBIT PROPOSALS
If you a proposing an exhibition for the library, it is important that the Committee has a chance to see the all (or at least most) of the actual images that are proposed as part of the exhibit. Please upload in the field above a single file including all of the images, along with information on their sizes and medium. Exhibits in the library are intended to relate directly to the City of West Hollywood, it's main demographic groups, or literature.
If you have questions about the space for exhibits, you can download this file which outlines the space identified for exhibitions https://app.box.com/s/65hlf8hpv4o3c8f7dzww87896pmj2nj1 - further questions regarding exhibits at the West Hollywood Library can be directed to the library exhibitions manager, Mike Che at mche@weho.org. Also please note that exhibitions intended for the library must meet the Site-specificity/Relationship to the Location criteria:
Exhibitions intended for the West Hollywood Library should take into consideration the location and community served by the Library and have some direct relevancy to the City of West Hollywood. As such, the Library Cultural Programming Committee includes the following criteria in considering potential exhibits.
· Highlight and/or relate to aspects of West Hollywood’s history and neighborhoods such as the Sunset Strip, the West Hollywood Design District, Historic Route 66, among others.
· Highlight and/or relate to West Hollywood’s major demographic groups (including the LGBTQ, Russian speaking/Eastern European and older adult communities) and major industries (including film, music, entertainment, home furnishings, and design).
· Align with the City’s longstanding support for Human Rights issues and its Core Value of “Respect and Support for People.”
· Have a literary connection or component that aligns with the exhibit’s location in the Library.
If your exhibit does not meet these criteria, you can apply to present an exhibition in a City owned gallery space at Long Hall in Plummer Park. This space does not have any dedicated staffing, so you would need to commit to staffing it yourself during regualr opening hours, which have to be at least 2-3 days per week. You can see a 360 view here.To apply for Long Hall you would fill out the City's Temporary Art Proposal Application which is reviewed twice a year: https://www.jotformpro.com/form/42746523608963
